Christopher Charles Benninger, CCBA, India

Veteran architect and educator, Prof. Christopher Benninger is the founder and principal of Christopher Charles Benninger Architects (CCBA). Highly acclaimed, CCBA has a unique perspective on design – that of patience and persistence through which they develop ideas that are truly consequential for architecture in India has put them at the apex of design thinking within and beyond India. In 1971, Prof. Benninger initiated the School of Planning at Ahmedabad as a Ford Foundation Advisor where he continues as a Distinguished Professor. He recently authored a book – ‘Letters to a Young Architect’ assimilating years of thought and practice within an exceptional chronicle. He lectures within India and in many international forums. His award winning designs include Mahindra United World College of India, the Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies, “Suzlon One Earth” world headquarters, the National Ceremonial Plaza at Thimphu, Bhutan. Benninger studied urban planning at MIT and architecture at Harvard where he later taught. His buildings are honest, true to the cause and highly efficient designs that respond to his unique understanding of the Indian condition. He lives and works from his studio and residence “India House” in Pune.
